BULLDOG SOCCER
The Bulldog soccer team kept the train rolling this week, extending its win streak to seven games with a pair of big road victories over Carlsbad and Los Lunas.
On Tuesday, the 'Dogs made the short trek south for the 2024 Eddy County War game and came home with bragging rights, besting the 5A Cavemen by a final of 4-1. They then took down another 5A opponent Saturday in Los Lunas, mercy-ruling the Tigers 10-0.
With the pair of wins, the Artesia boys stand at 9-2 on the season. They'll kick off District 4-AAAA play at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at The Mack against 5-6 Lovington (JV: 4 p.m.) and pause their second-season schedule Saturday, Sept. 28, to host fellow 4A squad Belen (4-5-1) at 2 p.m. (varsity only).

LADY BULLDOG SOCCER
The Lady Bulldogs went 1-1 this week, picking up a county rivalry win before falling to Ruidoso on the road.
The Artesia girls hosted Class 5A Carlsbad Tuesday at The Mack, scoring the game's lone goal in the first half and then fending off the Cavegirls for the 1-0 win. The Lady 'Dogs then headed to Ruidoso Saturday, where they came up just short of the A-3A fourth-ranked Lady Warriors, 2-1.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-3-2) will now travel to Roswell Tuesday, Sept. 24, for the final regular-season game against the 5A Lady Coyotes (7-6) at 6 p.m. (JV: 4 p.m.). The girls in orange open District 4-AAAA play at noon (JV: 10 a.m.) Saturday, Sept. 28, against Lovington (1-9) at The Mack.

BULLDOG VOLLEYBALL
The Bulldog volleyball team fought hard Tuesday in Hobbs but came up just short of the Class 5A Eagles, 3-2.
The Artesia netters took the first set, 25-23, but would come up short in the next two -- 21-25 and 7-25 -- to put Hobbs one game away from the victory. The girls in orange rallied in the fourth for a 25-19 W but were edged by the Eagles in the deciding set, 13-15.
With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 5-3 on the season. They'll look to rebound Tuesday, Sept. 24, against another 5A squad -- Carlsbad (5-6) -- at 6 p.m. on the road. JV action will begin at 5 p.m. The 'Dogs already have two wins over their county rivals under their belts: a 3-0 sweep in their season opener Aug. 27 and a 3-1 victory Sept. 14 at the Zia Classic in Roswell.
AHS CROSS COUNTRY
The Bulldog and Lady Bulldog runners hit the trail around the old airport and the Noon Optimist Baseball Field in Roswell Saturday for the NMMI Invitational.
On the girls' side, senior MacKenzie Norton finished third overall in the varsity race, while freshman Annalee Sanchez was first across the finish line for the Lady Bulldog JV in 22nd place. For the Bulldogs, DJ Madrid had a top-20 boys' varsity race, and freshman Edwin Villarreal topped the field in the boys' JV competition.
The AHS teams will next travel to Las Cruces Saturday, Sept. 28, for the 8 a.m. Organ Mountain Rob Winter Invite.
Also, don't forget: The cross country program will be hosting a Nightmare in Artesia 5k fundraiser Friday, Oct. 11, at Jaycee Park! Come "run for your life" while supporting the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. Events include one-mile kids' fun runs for age groups 5 and Under and 6-12; a 5k for ages 17 and under; a virtual 5k; and the primary 5k race. Costumes are allowed!
