The Bulldog football team notched a big district win over Lovington Friday on the road.

It was a great week for the Lady Bulldog soccer team!
The Artesia girls picked up a win over Class 5A Roswell High in their final regular-season game of the 2024 season Tuesday in Coyote Country. The Lady 'Dogs fell behind 1-0 in the first half before coming back to earn the 2-1 win on goals by senior Korinne Morrison and freshman Marlyn Corza. Senior keeper Kinsley Rodriguez had 12 saves on the contest.
Then on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs kicked off their District 4-AAAA schedule with a big win over Lovington at The Mack, 7-0. Artesia took a 1-0 lead over the Lady Wildcats in the first half before unleashing an offensive onslaught in the second half that resulted in six more goals.
With the pair of wins, the Lady 'Dogs moved to 9-3-2 on the season, 1-0 in D4 play. They'll continue their district schedule Thursday, Oct. 3, with a 3 p.m. game against Portales (5-6) in Portales (JV: 5 p.m.).

The Bulldog soccer team came up just short of Lovington Thursday in their District 4-AAAA opener at The Mack.
The Wildcats scored the game's lone goal in the first half and held on from there for the 1-0 win. With that, the Artesia boys dropped to 9-3 on the season, 0-1 in D4 play.
The 'Dogs were scheduled to take a break from their district slate for a game against Belen Saturday afternoon, but that contest was cancelled and ruled a forfeit, giving Artesia a 1-0 win and bumping their overall record to 10-3.
The 'Dogs will continue D4 play this week with a 3 p.m. game Tuesday, Oct. 1, against Portales (4-8, 0-1) in Portales (JV: 5 p.m.) and a 3 p.m. game Saturday, Oct. 5, against Goddard (5-10, 1-0) at The Mack (JV: 1 p.m.).
BULLDOG VOLLEYBALL
PICTURED: The JV volleyball teams closed out last week with excellent performances in the Artesia JV Tournament at Bulldog Pit. The tournament championship was won by the Artesia JV "A", while the JV "B" advanced to the Silver Bracket and the Park Junior High Freshman "Orange" team took second place overall.

The Artesia varsity netters just had one match this week, but they made it count, completing a season sweep of county rival Carlsbad, 3-1.
The Class 5A Cavegirls were tough in their home gym, but the Bulldogs edged them out in the first two sets, 27-25 and 25-23. Artesia was tripped up in Game Three, 20-25, but took another extra-point win in the fourth set to seal the deal, 27-25.
Junior Kailee Padilla had a whopping 22 kills in the match, followed by senior Hattie Harrison with 15. Senior Carmen Harvey and junior Jacky Tovar delivered three aces apiece from services, while Harrison and juniors Kirklyn Miller, Padilla and Ashton Craft all posted two. Padilla had 18 digs in the match and Harvey 11, and Miller finished with 44 assists.
The 'Dogs improve to 6-3 on the season with the win and will take on another pair of 5A opponents on the road this week. They'll travel to Roswell High Tuesday, Oct. 1, for a 6:30 p.m. match (JV: 5:30 p.m.) against the Coyotes (10-1) and will head to Clovis Thursday, Oct. 3, for a 6:30 p.m. bout (JV: 5:30 p.m.) against the Wildcats (5-6).
AHS CROSS COUNTRY
It was off to Las Cruces and the Organ Mountain Rob Winter Invite Saturday for the AHS cross country teams!
The Lady Bulldogs came in fifth overall in the meet behind Belen, Mayfield, Organ Mountain and Hobbs. Taking second-place individual honors was senior Makaylee Morillon with a time of 19:43.40, while senior MacKenzie Norton also placed in the top 10 with a sixth-place time of 21:29.47. Other results included: Sydney Boone, 24th, 22:55.06; Esmeralda Sorrells, 38th, 24:09.13; Sorrel Sheffield, 45th, 24:29.34; Lexi Devenport, 48th, 24:42.51; and Rebecca McKenzie, 62nd, 25:57.24.
For the Bulldogs, the team came in seventh overall behind Organ Mountain, Los Lunas, Hobbs, Centennial, Silver and Alamogordo, with senior Zane Baize first across the finish line in 15th place with a time of 17:11.56. Rounding out the field for the 'Dogs were: Parker Jarratt, 37th, 18:43.19; Ethan Johnson, 46th, 19:29.41; AJ Garcia, 49th, 19:43.11; Cameron Devenport, 51st, 19:45.45; and Edwin Villarreal, 59th, 20:17.00.
In the JV races, the Lady 'Dogs came in fourth as a team (Annalee Sanchez, 21st, 29:02.04; Arianna Perez, 30th, 31:39.25; Aria Molina, 37th, 34:17.92; Taylan Rosa, 38th, 34:26.96; Majesty Bryant, 39th, 34:40.24; Lily Bruton, 41st, 35;05.61) and the Bulldogs had solid individual performances from Wyatt Knudsen (13th, 20:37.14), Sterlin Sheffield (46th, 25:18.64) and Aedyn Moralez (58th, 29:23.84).
Next up for the AHS runners will be their home meet! The Coach Mo and Marquise' Weast Twilight Memorial will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Jaycee Park. A tailgate supper will be available from 3:30-6 p.m.; contact Artesia Cross Country to purchase a ticket!
